The Beautiful Humanity of Yang Hui

 It was with great pleasure that I received a request to write a few words about the art of Yang Hui. I have long admired the masterful paintings of a man I am privileged to call my friend of many years.

He creates powerful compositions using the figure from various perspectives where his art employs the human form as an actual artistic language making images of great emotional and visual impact. It is with a skilled and sure hand that paint is applied by brush and Fingers,first thicker then removed and then replied. Manipulating pigment thinly exposing the white of the hard slick paper beneath that gives a glowing life to the subtle and sometimes delicate shapes offering a multiplicity of possibilities for the viewer of how to see something familiar with new eyes.

Gestural and energetic depictions of mankind painted with deep humanity and insight into simple daily life are juxtaposed by other works that are grand compositional views where the figure is reduced to only the element used to dramatic effect forming vistas and shapes- almost abstract.  It is between these two points of view that Yang Hui delights the eye of the fortunate appreciator.

He has spent years mastering his medium to make the difficult appear simple and effortless. All the better that a viewer can become part of the humanity contained within this artist’s vision of a world of poetic beauty and strength.

      他花了数年时间来掌握他的绘画方法，使困难的事情看起来简单而轻松。更重要的是，观者可以成为这位艺术家眼中充满诗意美和力量的世界所展现出的人性的一部分。
